Draft Public Transparency Policy

The purpose of the Public Transparency Policy is to support Council in its ongoing drive for good governance and reinforces the importance of open and accountable conduct. In practice, it provides guidance as to how Council information is to be made publicly available. Council must adopt and maintain a public transparency policy under section 57 of the Local Government Act 2020.

This policy has been reviewed in line with its review schedule, and the following information has been added to the policy:

• the definition of Community has been expanded to include all individuals or groups who live, work, play, study, visit, invest in or pass through the municipality.
• the Policy statement has also been expanded to include a clear list of objectives.
• the affirmation that where information is not confidential, and not already available to the public, Council will apply the principles of a public interest test with consideration, also of the resources required do respond to the request, in considering if the information shall be made available.
