Consultation has now concluded.
At the Council meeting held on Wednesday 8 May 2024, Council resolved to give public notice of its intention to sell Gerang Memorial Hall, Gerang-Glenlee Road, Gerang Gerung, under section 114(2)(a) of the Local Government Act 2020.
Council manages several buildings across the Shire that are approaching end of life or at end of life. Issues with the Gerang Memorial Hall include:
White ant damage - Toilet block and kitchen dining area
Friable Asbestos - Toilet block
Drainage issues in the dining area
Mould in the ceiling
The hall contains some items of historical significance such as honour boards and memorabilia. Any items of historical significance to the community will be removed from the property prior to the sale of the building. Council will work with the former hall committee, families connected with the hall and any other relevant parties in deciding the future of these items.
Council invites you to complete the survey below regarding your views on this decision. Additionally, Council will be hosting a drop-in session at the Gerang Memorial Hall from 4pm – 6pm on Tuesday 21 May 2024, where interested community members can discuss the proposed sale of the asset with Council officers.
Submissions close at 5pm on Monday 10 June 2024.
Outcome of consultation: We thank members of community for their valuable feedback during the consultation period. The drop-in session held on 21 May 2024 at the Gerang Memorial Hall was well attended and most attendees supported the proposal as the has was not utilised for last five years and is not likely to be used soon. A total of four written submissions were received during the consultation period. Three of the submissions clearly supported the proposal. At the Council meeting held on Wednesday 24 July 2024, the Council unanimously voted to approve the disposal of Geran Memorial Hall and authorised the CEO to undertake the sale process. The CEO will now appoint a Real Estate agent to commence the sale process.
